Wiesje Kuijpers is a freelance television producer, documentary researcher and journalist. Over the last ten years she has contributed to a wide variety of TV series and documentaries, both national and international.

She mainly works for public broadcasters, but also for commercial production houses and cultural institutions. A lot of her work takes place abroad and on location. She specializes in narrative/creative research: the intersection between storytelling and journalistic research.

For one of her favourite projects she travelled into the hinterlands of Papua New Guinea on the trail of a 19th century severed head. It was part of the documentary series O’Hanlons Helden (O’Hanlons Heroes), which won the prestigious Dutch award Nipkow Schijf.

More recently she traveled to Mongolia, Laos, Australia and the Solomon islands to produce stories for the second season of the widely acclaimed 'The world of the Chinese,' a documentary series about the Chinese diaspora and the local effects of the rising power of China.

Wiesje studied television journalism and cultural anthropology at the University of Amsterdam. Her master thesis was nominated for the Dutch National Thesis Award (Volkskrant/DIA scriptieprijs). She is fluent in German and English and she has lived in Berlin (Germany) and Johannesburg (South Africa), where she worked as a reporter.
